Keyword research begins with Good Keywords keyword research tool. Download this keyword tool and start your research in finding appropriate keywords for your business. For eg. your webpage is about reebok shoes. This is generic category. I did a keyword search and found that there are 7826 searches for "reebok shoes" in the January-2007.

Lets see what other keywords are available which contain the keyword "Reebok shoes". Here are some of them:

Long-Tail Keyword Searches
Reebok Ice-cream shoes 1191
Reebok Basketball shoes 720
Reebok classic shoes 669

Reebok tennis shoes 487
Reebok running shoes 441

For illustration I have used 5 long-tail keywords. As you see the searches per month go on decreasing as we go down the list. Many would like to go for the top one say "Reebok shoes" since it has massive searches per month almost 250 searches a day.

Now consider this. In broad search for "Reebok shoes" in google, there are 2,020,000 SERPs whereas for exact search for the same word its "426,000".

For "Reebok tennis shoes" lets see the same results. Broad search its 1,250,000 and exact search is 25,700.

For "reebok running shoes" its 2,000,000 and 58,000.

See from the above results that the keywords which have lesser searches have lesser webpages compared to top keywords. So its practically easier to rank for former keywords. In short its easier to rank for "reebok running shoes" than "reebok shoes".

So to get that ideal start this is the way....
